Andor Diorama, 2026 Convention Season

How It Came Together

This is a rebuild. The original Zorby’s Shiplot was a 96×48 diorama housing both the Breon HOY-39 Dayvan and The Mandor. It looked right on a shelf. It was never going to survive regular transport to shows, and it was built before I understood MILS. This version fixes both problems.

The base gets a black perimeter frame using 2×2 modified plates with side studs, which anchors the scene visually against expo tablecloths and keeps it from disappearing into the background. The ground surface is mostly 1×1 plates and tiles rather than large plates, which reads as worn and organic rather than flat. I also dropped select 4×4 sections by one plate height to get subtle elevation variation without compromising the MILS structure.

The environmental details are pulled from the original build: the Aurebesh sign, the loudspeaker, the security console, fuel station, crates, industrial piping. The goal wasn’t to replicate the full yard at scale. It was instant recognition from the specific details that make Zorby’s feel like Zorby’s. Scattered 1×1 plates read as moss and surface decay. Clean symmetry would have worked against the location.
