Blacktron Speeder Pack

Snowspeeder, X-34 Landspeeder, and 74-Z Speeder Bike designed with the LEGO Blacktron theme

This project brings together three familiar Star Wars speeders and rebuilds them as a cohesive set using the visual language of classic Blacktron. Rather than treating each as a standalone remix, all three were designed together so they feel like they belong to the same faction, shaped by a shared palette, parts language, and an emphasis on restraint over surface detail.

Building instructions and a complete parts list are available on Rebrickable for $7.

New to Rebrickable? It’s the marketplace for custom LEGO instructions. You purchase and download a PDF, then use the included parts list to source pieces through BrickLink or your preferred parts store. Here’s a step-by-step guide to ordering parts.

These three ships were selected to cover a range of roles and scales, from fast reconnaissance to compact air support.

74-Z Speeder Bike

This build starts from my custom 74-Z Speeder Bike and shifts its identity almost entirely through color. Black forms the core of the bike, with yellow used sparingly to break up the silhouette and highlight key structural elements. A transparent yellow windscreen anchors the cockpit, while small transparent red elements suggest exposed systems and power routing.

The result feels lean, aggressive, and purpose-built. It works just as well under a Scout Trooper as it does piloted by a Blacktron minifigure, racing across hostile terrain or skimming the edge of an outpost.

X-34 Landspeeder

Built on my custom X-34 Landspeeder design, this version trades Luke’s original tan palette for a mostly black body with bold yellow accents. The color blocking is intentionally asymmetrical in places, echoing the utilitarian feel of early Blacktron vehicles rather than a polished civilian craft.

Transparent yellow and red elements are used for lighting and instrumentation, while the interior remains simple and functional. This feels less like a personal transport and more like a workhorse vehicle moving personnel and equipment between installations.

T-47 Snowspeeder

This build is based on my custom T-47 Snowspeeder, keeping the familiar wedge-shaped profile while shifting its role through Blacktron styling. Black dominates the body, with yellow accents around the maneuvering flaps and a transparent yellow windscreen defining the cockpit.

Transparent red is used for the laser cannons, reinforcing the faction’s high-contrast look, while the interior stays minimal and utilitarian. In this configuration, the T-47 feels less like a defensive patrol craft and more like a fast strike vehicle operating out of a hidden Blacktron base.

About Blacktron

Blacktron refers to one of LEGO Space’s earliest faction-based themes, introduced in the late 1980s. Unlike Classic Space’s optimistic exploration focus, Blacktron presented a more secretive, technologically aggressive faction. Vehicles were defined by heavy use of black, bold yellow accents, transparent yellow windscreens, and occasional transparent red details, creating a high-contrast, immediately recognizable look.

Blacktron sets often felt modular, experimental, and slightly menacing, with an emphasis on speed, technology, and intent rather than comfort or realism. That tone is what guided this Speeder Pack.

For this project, I limited the palette and parts language to echo those early Blacktron cues. Black forms the structural base, yellow is used for visual breaks and faction identity, and transparent elements are kept deliberate and sparse. The goal was to reinterpret each speeder so it feels like it could plausibly exist within a Blacktron lineup, while keeping the original silhouettes instantly recognizable.

On Patreon I publish behind-the-scenes articles documenting how each build actually came together. The article for the Speeder Packs covers the full research and palette-building process across all three themes. For Blacktron specifically, how the space pirate lore shaped a more aggressive, weapon-forward design direction and the high-contrast palette that ties all three speeders together. Tier 1 (Hangar Crew) membership gets you this article and every behind-the-scenes post I publish.

Building Instructions

All three builds were designed digitally and are included together as a single Speeder Pack. The main parts list covers all three speeders, with individual XML parts lists provided for builders who prefer to tackle them separately or in a specific order.

Those XML files can be uploaded directly to BrickLink wanted lists to simplify sourcing parts before building.

273 pages, developed through a full physical test build. Includes a complete parts list for sourcing through BrickLink or your preferred parts store.
