The 74-Z speeder bike is the reconnaissance speeder used by Imperial scout troopers, first seen on screen chasing Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa through the forest moon of Endor in Return of the Jedi. This redesign covers three versions: the brown finish worn on Endor, a white variant that shipped alongside LEGO’s own UCS AT-AT set, and the gray Imperial remnant colors seen in The Mandalorian.

Origin and Design
The 74-Z was standard-issue for Imperial scout troopers, built for speed over armor, reconnaissance and pursuit rather than combat. Its most famous outing is the speeder chase through the Endor forest in Return of the Jedi, where Luke and Leia commandeer two after crashing through a patrol.
LEGO’s UCS AT-AT set included its own version, finished in white to match the set’s color scheme rather than any specific on-screen appearance. That’s the version this whole redesign started from. The gray colorway comes from a later appearance: Imperial remnant scout troopers pursuing a stolen transport through the canyons of Nevarro in The Mandalorian.
Creating the 74-Z Speeder Bike
This is the v2 redesign of a MOC I first started sharing in 2022. Going back into it meant working out the actual proportions against the 74-Z’s canon 3.3m length at minifig scale, and rebuilding the sections that were furthest off.
- Narrower center console, one stud slimmer around the controls
- Reworked rear end, dropping the mudguard piece and an extra plate for a lower profile
- Cheese slope detail added at the rear, matching the small raised panel behind the seat
- 14.2 studs long, down from v1’s 15.4, closer to the canon scale

Role in Star Wars
The 74-Z speeder bike first appeared in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (1983), ridden by Imperial scout troopers during the speeder chase on the forest moon of Endor. It later appeared in The Mandalorian, Season 2, Chapter 12: “The Siege” (2020), in gray Imperial remnant colors during the canyon chase outside the old Imperial base on Nevarro.
