Utilipede Transport

Utilipede Transport MOC by ScruffyBrickHerder

The Utilipede Transport is a custom LEGO MOC of the Sienar-Chall cargo ship seen throughout Star Wars Outlaws. It isn’t a glamorous ship, it’s an unarmed, utilitarian hauler designed to move goods rather than inspire fear. That’s exactly what made it interesting to build.

The finished model carries three removable cargo containers beneath a remarkably thin central spine, supported by an internal structure engineered for both display and handling.

Design

The Utilipede Transport was manufactured by Sienar-Chall, a company that may have emerged after Sienar Fleet Systems acquired what remained of Haor Chall Engineering. Equipped with a hyperdrive but no weapons, the standard transport carried three cargo containers beneath its body. Larger variants offered five cargo slots.

The compact cockpit accommodated a single pilot, with a small area behind the seat for storage and a refresher. My LEGO version includes an adjustable pilot’s seat and flight controls.

The structural problem is immediately apparent: a very thin spine connects the cockpit to the twin engines. Making that connection strong enough for real handling, and able to attach three cargo containers, took several weeks of iteration and a variety of SNOT techniques.

The completed model securely supports all three containers and is sturdy enough to swoosh, although the spine rather than the upper wing is the right place to hold it.
