The R93 Refractor, introduced in Star Wars: Outlaws — A Pirate’s Fortune, is a fascinating starfighter used by the Rokana Raiders, with unique dual-rotating wings.
Origin, Design, and Specs
This starship was used by the Rokana Raiders pirate organization and had dual-rotating wings with 3 configurations:
- Docking Mode: Both wings rotated up, side-by-side.
- Scout Mode: When taking off, the large wing rotates down, allowing for all 3 engines to be in use, but only 2 of the cannons active. As the landing gear retracts, a stabilizer extends from the bottom of the fuselage.
- Assault Mode: Both wings rotate horizontal, with the larger wing on the port side. Power is diverted from the 2 side engines to the 2 extra cannons, resulting in increased firepower, but reduced maneuverability.
The ship has a hyperdrive, ion shields to counter the storms in the nebula where the pirates operate from, a cockpit that seats up to 2 pilots, and cargo space for smuggling.
Creating the R93 Refractor in LEGO
I’m proud to be the first person to design a LEGO version of this unique ship. It was extremely challenging to design, and I spent hours studying the ship with the in-game photo mode. I utilized LEGO Technic turntables for the rotating wings and lots of SNOT techniques to achieve the round shape. The wings stay upright in docked mode and I made small transparent supports under the wings to display it in assault mode, because the Technic turntables don’t have resistance and the wings are quite large). The wings are very strong, due to the interlocking Technic pins and axles, allowing you to pick it up and hold it from them, achieving maximum swooshability.
Due to size constraints, the cockpit only fits 1 minifig, but the bottom inverted windscreen comes off, allowing great access to the unique pilot’s seat in the cockpit.

If you don’t like the canon purple accents, I’ve also included an alternate gray colorway, for a more traditional Star Wars feel, that may fit into your collection better. This version features a cool transparent bottom cockpit canopy, giving a unique view into the cockpit.
Role in Star Wars Outlaws
This starfighter was designed for the Star Wars Outlaws DLC “A Pirate’s Fortune”. You encounter it early in the game, when flying the Trailblazer. Later, when you complete the DLC, it becomes flyable via the Hauler’s Keep space station in the Khepi system.
