TIE Launch Tube

The Mandalorian Diorama, 2026 Convention Season

That scene in The Mandalorian Season 2 finale where Moff Gideon’s TIE Fighters launch straight through the forcefield? This is that tube.

The walls have ridges, piping, and dings from fighters that didn’t quite clear. The forcefield glows the way it should.

A TIE on a stand is fine. A TIE locked in a tube, ready to launch, tells a story.

Year built: 2026
Build time: ~1 week
Size: 10″ x 10″ (32 x 32 studs)

How It Came Together

The tube itself is only on screen briefly in “The Rescue,” but you get a clear look at what matters: the corridor structure, raised ridges running down the walls, industrial piping, and that glowing forcefield before the fighters punch through it. That was enough to work from.

The wall ridges were the hardest part to get right. They serve double duty as structural connections to the base, and getting a half-plate adjustment so the slopes meet cleanly without gaps took several dozen Studio prototypes. I had slope 45s and slope 30s to work with. The 45s were more screen-accurate, but the 30s were what I had on hand in quantity, so that’s what I built.

The floor is a standard MILS base with SNOT modules and 1×2 grill bricks for industrial texture, plus white directional stripes and dividers pulled directly from the reference screenshots. The forcefield uses the same layering approach I developed for my Pirate Hangar diorama, with one improvement: white plates underneath the transparent blue. That tip came from a follower on Instagram. It makes a real difference in how the glow reads.

The TIE Fighter inside is a LEGO MOC from my Modular TIE Series, available on Rebrickable. I skipped a full ceiling to keep the interior visible, and left off the rear beam to conserve parts. Dark blue gray has been taking a beating this season.

The full breakdown, including the wall ridge prototyping and the forcefield layering, is on Patreon for Tier 1 and above members. Tier 1 (Hangar Crew) includes a 7-day free trial.
