The TIE Advanced x1 isn’t just another Imperial starfighter — it’s the dark promise of what a TIE could be when you push the limits. Where standard TIEs lean into speed and numbers, the TIE Advanced x1 packs shielded power, custom modifications, and prestige. It’s a legacy piece, a prototype that carves fear into Rebel hearts and inspires builders chasing that crossover between menace and elegance.
Origin, Design, and Specs
Built by Sienar Fleet Systems as part of their TIE fighter series, the TIE Advanced x1 arises from experiments to make a more capable, more versatile TIE craft. It draws inspiration from Kuat’s agile V-wing and the Eta-2 interceptor. Unlike the barebones TIE/ln, the Advanced x1 is fitted with deflector shields and a hyperdrive — luxuries in the TIE line. The wings were modified with solar cells; the cockpit is customized for Darth Vader’s armor.
Creating the TIE Advanced x1 in LEGO
I first tackled the TIE Advanced x1 back in 2021, taking cues from LEGO’s earlier versions before charting my own course. Since then, I’ve completely re-engineered the design as part of my modular TIE lineup, standardizing the connection points between the pod and wings. That means this ship can swap parts seamlessly with my other TIE variants — perfect for creating fresh hybrids or expanding a fleet of “Uglies.”
This build captures the subtle details that set the Advanced x1 apart, like the rounded rear section with its small cutouts, achieved through SNOT (Studs Not On Top) techniques to change stud orientation in multiple directions. And beyond accuracy, it’s built to handle play — sturdy, modular, and absolutely swooshable.

Role in Star Wars
The TIE Advanced x1 is best known as Darth Vader’s personal starfighter during the Battle of Yavin in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, where he piloted it in pursuit of the Rebel assault on the Death Star. Beyond its cinematic debut, the ship appears in Star Wars Rebels, particularly in the Siege of Lothal arc, where Vader demonstrates its devastating effectiveness against the fledgling Rebellion. It has also featured in animated adaptations and video games, including Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader, Battlefront II, and LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, where players can take the helm of this fearsome prototype. Across media, the Advanced x1 consistently symbolizes both technological superiority and Vader’s personal menace, cementing its reputation as one of the most iconic starfighters in the saga.
